Business demand & load factor calculator

Understand the relationship between period consumption and measured peak demand. Model a clearly defined billed-demand scenario without confusing it with a capacity tag.

Check your inputsPeriod consumption must be a number between 0.01 and 1,000,000,000,000.

Load factor = kWh ÷ (measured peak kW × billing days × 24). It describes this period; it is not an efficiency rating. Ratchets, minimum billing demand, power factor, time-of-use, and taxes are excluded. ComEd/PJM capacity and network PLC values are separate account values; monthly peak kW cannot substitute for them. No PJM or MISO capacity bill is calculated here.

kWh describes consumption. kW describes demand.

Take kWh, the measured maximum kW, and billing days from the same period. Load factor compares average load with that measured maximum. A result above 100% indicates inconsistent units or periods and is not a valid efficiency result.

For the cost scenario, enter billed demand separately. Tariff ratchets, minimum demand, time-of-use, and power-factor adjustments can cause billed demand to differ from the measured maximum. The modeled reduction must actually change tariff-billed kW before it affects the bill.

PJM capacity PLC, Network Service PLC, and MISO capacity arrangements are different from a monthly measured maximum. This tool deliberately does not multiply monthly peak kW by a wholesale auction price or imply a resulting capacity saving.
